Title: Connection Management Description: Connect and configure your Ethernet interface URL: /latest/ethernet/connection/ Version: latest Section: Ethernet Search index: /search-index.json # Connection Management > Connect and configure your Ethernet interface ## On this page - [Configuration](#configuration) - [MAC Address Management](#mac-address-management) - [System Time](#system-time) --- Manage your Ethernet connection with configuration and status commands. Note: Ethernet is available only on the Banshee S3 build (CONFIG_WITH_ETHERNET). Tip: The Ethernet interface can be used with the DNS sinkhole - once connected via Ethernet, sinkhole start will use the Ethernet IP automatically. See [DNS Sinkhole](/latest/wifi/dns-sinkhole/) for details. Check if Ethernet is connected and view its IP configuration with ethup: ethup Prints the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS servers, and DHCP server. It does not show link speed. Show link status, speed, duplex, MAC, and IP details with ethinfo: ethinfo For example, ethinfo reports the negotiated link (such as 100Mbps Full Duplex) and the interface MAC address. Bring the interface down with ethdown: ethdown ## Configuration View the current IP settings (DHCP or static): ethconfig show Enable DHCP to obtain an IP address automatically: ethconfig dhcp Set a static IP address: ethconfig static <ip> <netmask> <gateway> Example: ethconfig static 192.168.1.100 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1 ## MAC Address Management View the current MAC address: ethmac Set a custom MAC address with ethmac set. Use with caution-changing MAC addresses may affect network access. ethmac set <xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx> ## System Time Display the current system time including local time, UTC time, and Unix timestamp: time Set the system time: settime <unix_timestamp> Example: settime 1703001600 Synchronize the system time with an NTP server: ethntp <time_server> If no server is specified, uses pool.ntp.org by default: ethntp Example with custom server: ethntp time.nist.gov
